East 15's Physical Theatre course. What is it?
The Physical Theatre course at East 15 is one of the few courses in the world providing an approach to making theatre from a physical perspective. As theatre makers they are equipped with traditional acting skills as well as approaches to theatre influenced by Jacques Lecoq, Jerzy Grotowski, Philippe Gaulier and many others. The course allows the actors to explore more specific skills in their work also. With direct focus on Circus Aerial Work, including Rope, Silks and Trapeze. The training also covers Mime, Gymnastics, various Mask styles (Neutral, larval, Expressive and Commedia) and Puppetry/Object Manipulation. These skills are used to help devise new theatre or reinvent it, for example the 2015 graduates performed 'Road' by Jim Cartwright as a mask piece.
